My Rig

recent shopping list:
blackmagic cinema camera, alphatron EVF, Vocas top handle, monitor support and grips, Arri shoulder pad, Lamparte battery plate, 2 x Harkwood batteries, Canon 24mm ts-e, Canon 17-40mm (to add to my Canon 24-70mm and 80-200mm) Heliopan variable ND, Fotodiox MFT - EF adapter and filter step up rings Fotga Follow focus and support and bars Miller tripod system some cables and a peli case and stock.

realised the Miller DS10 isn't so sweet. Pan and Tilt heads are so expensive. Used a Vision 250 a lot of my professional career

Are you still using it? It's rated for 11lbs. That seems a bit light to me.

Yeah, it's just come back from Miller actually. The counterbalance just isn't enough for the 6kg load of my rig (maybe because the battery plate is mounted above of the BMMC camera body), though you say it's rated for up to 11kg. It droops down when tilted off centre and tilts up when tilted up slightly. Also, the pan and tilt frictions/drag are sticky. The only way you can have a smooth start to a pan is to take the friction off and of course that then leaves you with no friction and prone to inadvertent camera movement. The head just isn't up to the job. I have a problem because I'm doing a film in Jan and with the rig, and the need for a new Mac, funds are just about gone.
