Best Tips for Low LIght Settings on BMPCC6K/6KPRO

PostSun May 16, 2021 5:42 am

Is ther any tricks that you use with your bmpcc cameras in such places where is too dark, like interior scene and you don't have with yourself any light and there is no window.
You are shooting person who is moving + talking during that, so it's not a static shoot. How will you figure out to get best results? Any suggestions will help me, thanks.

Setting the shutter to 360° gives you one stop more light, faster lenses with f/2.8 or less will help.
But ultimately you will need light, so best advice is to invest in some portable lights and learn how to use them to create a moody scene. Using lights is the biggest and most important improvement.
If the person you are shooting is moving then you need an assistant moving the light too. (A Chinese lantern on a pole for example).

If you are shooting a talking head lecturing then you will need some light too. Maybe one on each side or from above.

Finally you can use the higher ISO stage from 1250 on for less noise in the shadows (but with less dynamic range) and some in post denoising.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

I wouldn’t do it without any lights but you can start with using BRAW Q0 or 3:1 so you have the flexibility for adjusting in Post. Adjust ISO, aperture, and shutter angle so you more dynamic range in the highlights to recover from. If it is already dark, the shadows will matter less. So less DR in the shadows is fine. Use false color to gauge the exposure. But next time get some lights.
