DIY wired S.BUS remote for Micro Studio Camera

PostMon May 17, 2021 9:22 pm

Hi,

I built a wired remote control for my BMD micro studio camera that I'd like to share with everybody. I primarily built it so I could use the camera as a webcam without having to run the video through an ATEM to control the camera. It's open source if you want to build your own or modify it or use any of the files as a starting point for your own design. The blog post is up today. Hoping to post the design files and source code tonight after work.

I also have a USB to S.BUS converter that lets me control the camera settings from a Windows GUI dialog box. I'm thinking about picking up the BMD Arduino shield to take the project to the next level but S.BUS meets my immediate needs.

Oh wow! That's cool! I was not aware of that page until now. Going to have to check it out. Thanks!

I'd like to add LANC control to my project but it'll have to be a future revision of the hardware because I didn't hook up the Rx data line and I think LANC requires both Tx and Rx to work.

By the way, if you somehow interested to fit this controller to other existing open hardware, you may use 3.5mm TRS jack for S.Bus connection. There are plenty of Micro camera users who use these Expansion Boxes.

There are also few other popular controllers that use 3.5mm jack but they use 4 pole TRRS jack and don't follow the same pinout. This makes things not compatible without additional cable adapter or modification:
