2.5K U.S. vs Austrlia

So I'm hoping to pick up a couple of 2.5k's for a touch cheaper than here in Aus when I'm next in the U.S. Other than obviously the power adaptor, what differences can I expect between cameras?

My US version came with multiple power adapters for multiple countries. Bear in mind, though you're probably violating quite a few international laws, and should be paying customs when you get back. Also, for service, you'll have to send it back through the US... probably not worth the savings.

Good to hear about the power adaptors, but the service issue is a fair point. Murphy's law is that if I pick it up overseas, it's bound to need a service...

pretty much any pro level camera will eventually need some form of service... especially one with a non user replaceable internal battery which will eventually wear out and need replacing.

There is no law against buying goods while travelling, but yes, you would be expected to declare your cameras and cough up import duty and gst. It can still be cheaper than buying locally.

Just out of curiosity...WHY would be have to go back to the states?

My BMCC didn't come with an USA warranty...As long as you register it and bring it to an authorized retailer, I don't think there is a problem. Confirm that with BM directly...but there is nothing in my packaging that states it's only serviceable in Canada.

That's how it is with pretty much so every greymarket item- which is basically what you're getting into. It's only warrantied in the country in which it is sold. But honestly, I don't see any reason to go through any of that sort of hassle to save a few dollars.
It's not per-say illegal unless you're not declaring it and I honestly don't know the tax situation for AU; but often it winds up being a wash once you add on the taxes to bring it in or out of the country.

That's likely with a BM product, but Aussies pay significantly more for lots of things. We even pay more for iTunes downloads even if you take into account the taxes.
I often buy things legitimately from overseas. I'm happy to pay the tax on import as I still save quite a bit.
Complex technology, especially new products, I tend to buy close to home because they often have tech issues.
