SDI to HDMI Converters from Deal Extreme?

PostWed Oct 23, 2013 6:04 pm

I'm looking to get a cheap SDI to HDMI converter. I'm not using an external monitor much where I would something more robust, that's why I don't want to spend a lot of this specific piece of gear.

Has anyone used the ones you can get at dx.com?

or;

Thanks!

Yeah I already have a smallish LCD TV that could double as a monitor on some small no budget short films that I want to shoot, where I don't need a kick ass SDI monitor.

Hi Jim. I trayed the first with a marshall 5.6 and it worked just fine about 5 minutes.. them I fooled around with the pixel to pixel feature in the monitor and the adapter went off. I think the adapter is good but no for heavy duty. ANd you have to be very carefull how you power this plastic box...since is a 5V. (need a voltage converter if you are coming from a IDX like..Battery) . They also have a PRO version but is as expensive as Blackmagic's adapter.

Then I trayed another : AVUE SDH-R01 $99... I thought it will be more realiable but never got signal from it connected to the BMCC. Something is wrong with the SDI signal between the blackmagic and this adapter... BUt with other gear like the hdlink (more powerfull ouput) the adapter works just fine.

So I gave up....
Tomorrow I will get the BMD's battery adapter.... I can't keep guessing what will work... I hope the compatibility of the same brand pay the peace of mind... and be available to forget the wallet drain...

I bought one of these after reading on this forum that someone else got it to work with his BMCC and monitor:

I've tried it with a Samsung HDTV and it worked very well. However, connecting it to my Lilliput HDMI monitor, it doesn't get a signal...

I saw the SmartView 17 inch monitor working and I have ordered one. I was looking for an affordable directors monitor and it looked sharp and crisp. Some say the collor is a litle bleuisch , but it can be set to your own choice with the software it comes with. I'ts also a verry flat screen so I want build it in some kind of Pelicase for easy drag around on locations.
