BMCC touchscreen is a fantastic !

PostThu Oct 24, 2013 5:57 pm

Becourse most people post only there problems, I also want to post my first positive impressions of the BMCC.

First of all what impressed me the most is the ' Touchscreen interface ' ! , for me this is is a fantastic improvement of technology on Pro cameras. It really works like a charm ! , it's so ' simple ' and clear to handle. I really like it. For the rest I dint' notice any problems yet , but I need to shoot some more footage in RAW coming weeks to give more feedback about that. So up till now all good and happy with my BMCC ! :D

Its a bit too reflective, but yea it is a great interface!

I use one of those ipad screen protectors on mine, apart from a few bubbles it works great.

I am even more impressed with how good the pocket cam screen looks, but the interface could use a bit of optimising I think.

Thanks for being positive on here, its nice to see other happy people!

I agree, it works really well and gets the job done.

Only thing that's annoying sometimes is that, when you try zoom in with a double-tap, it brings up the meta data menu instead because it didn't register the second tap. :P
That happens a lot to me. I wish I could turn the metadata option off. I never want to use it but I use the zoom-function all the time.

@ Tom:
Yes, it's hard to see in bright sunlight. I wish somebody would make a viewfinder/loupe for the display. I know there is one from http://www.munzmachine.com but that one doesn't seem to be compatible with my Hawk-Woods battery mount that I have on top of my camera. It also doesn't look very sturdy. Sorry if I'm going a little off-topic. ;)

Agree, I would like the zoom-in to be a single tap, and the metadata as a double tap

Same here. Otherwise, I love the interface. The screen could be better quality though.

Your wright the double tap zoom is not ideal and some reflection I can imagine in bright sunlight must be anoying. But as for the zoom I have an extra monitor on the rig and I will take advantage of the 17 inch SmartView. So its just for ajusting settings.

Try to set the audio volume left/right to a certain level (like e.g. 80) - you might be surprised how hard that can be.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

I personally think Wifi or bluetooth would be of more value than touch screen. While it's functional, and probably the most cost-effective way to get all those controls onto the camera - plus make it (theoretically) field upgradeable, I really would love the ability to use a companion program in another device to add metadata.

While it's great for setting the basics, the touch screen is too cumbersome to type info in before each take. Imagine if it could be linked to a script super's computer, that sort of thing...

But, you know, BMCC is still amazing for the price.

I agree. It's been great for us so far. I should say they now, since I have a Pocket to supplement my BMCC MFT.
