Zoom H6 & BMCC connection

PostFri Oct 25, 2013 12:48 pm

I can't seem to get the Zoom to record to the camera using the line out to the BMCC. I have the current firmware, line level input setting on the camera and plenty of gain. I haven't tried using a mono cable. All I have are stereo. Does that matter?

Am I missing something or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ben

Are you saying you did not get it to record?

Or that it would only record in stereo?

I can't get it to record any audio to the BMCC using the line out of the H6.

I'm very interested in this possible sound solution to the BMCC. Please update your future tests with the Zoom H6 and the BMCC.

Looking forward to your next entry and good luck. Look like a good unit, but as we all know, the audio issues to the bmcc mount by the day

I'd be interested in a good solution as well - with the cable I use I never get sufficient audio-levels inside the BMC (although line-in is set to 100):

I have the H6 on the BMCC. You need to set the BMCC to Mic and set the levels to 25%. This way you should get equal levels on the camera recordings to the zoom levels. But the signal is crushed as discused several times in the forum. So if you really want good quality sound you got to record with the recorder and sync in post.

Another thing with all Zoom Recorders is that if you power them from an external v-mount battery system you get some ground-loop-noise on the line out of the recorder. So you have to use the internal batteries only if you want to record the line out.

hope this helps

Thanks so much, Thomas!

Very valuable tipps!

I'll always rely on the externally recorded audio, but sometimes it's nice to have some atmo-sound
recorded properly by the BMC.

E D I T:

Thomas, which firmware are you on? When using 1.21 the sound even clips when mic-input is set to 9%.

Oh sorry, im on 1.41. Cant comment on 1.21 since everything with audio was different on that firmware. Im pretty shure that firmware 1.31 to 1.51 match with the settings i previously mentioned.

No worries, Thomas, and thanks for the info.
Seems they changed quite a bit on that end as even at 5% mic-input on 1.21 it distorts.

One day we might have proper audio in the camera, plus no more black sun and compressed RAW.

Sigh...
