Whoops ... 4K Competitive Pro Package in The Spring

PostSat Oct 26, 2013 4:04 am

I hope this inspires BMD to use this timeout with the sensor issue to beef up the BMPC4K firmware with more features (like 120fps) as a company that begins with a "P" is swooping behind BMD with what sounds like a killer product. I am rooting for BMD. Let's go guys and gals ... time to step it up.

Frankly, I'd just like to see them work with the Convergent Design people. They can record Sony FS700 RAW at 120fps using cDNGs...over 2 3G SDI connections. So if the 4K camera has this 6G...they should be able to work something out with CD.

Wow wow wow, let's see at least the first version of the firmware and we will be able to talk about additional features when we have the cameras in our hands at last. :)

I mean, I would prefer to get the camera a bit sooner with nothing else added than the promised features than wait 2 more months for new additions in order for the camera to be competitive under the new terms.

Anyway, who would believe that BMD would add anything more in the first version of the firmware...

I see your point. However, if I was Mr. Perry, I would have 120fps and other features already being worked on in order to stay ahead of the competition. BMD irritated (in a good way) a lot of competitors with the 2.5k (which is a lovely camera) and now other manufacturers have massive financial resources to try and kick BMD's butt. The problem with being an innovative company is that the bigger companies can swoop in and send you to your grave. I would imagine that BMD's super secret corporate spies have been anticipating that and may be delaying 4K production, in part, to surprise us with a WOW to try and reverse the very poorly executed rollout. That's the way I would play it.

I would wait for the 4K to be the best it can be and try and squash whatever is coming. This misstep on BMD's part with the delay has alienated lots of people that might wait and go with brand X just to spite them. When this all happened, I was going to ditch and buy a RED Epic. I have since come to my senses, because I actually like the BMD color science behind their sensors better.

Well I don't know if this would have any solid effect since BMD's policy seems to be "You like it? Cool, then preorder and wait. You don't like it? Also cool, go with another brand".
It would have some effect if everybody did the same. But there are still (and will always be) people who believe too much in BMD's products (including me) - and there are reasons for this. One of them is, indeed, the color science.

I feel BMD people feel so able to surprise (in this case, negatively) their customers because they feel sure they won't get any (unpleasant) surprises back. Again, though, this is just speculation.

Sad … I would never run my company that way. Too scary. When other options become available, however, many people will loose their loyalty. I'm not buying a C500 and yet I have been a loyal Canon user for a long time.
