What a beautiful camera....

I have finally received my BMPCC and am absolutely in love with the image !!

Am using a Panasonic Leica 25mm and an Alphatron EVF which for me just work perfectly, especially the focus ring on the lens. Plenty of travel and really easy to lock in and am finding the Waveform on the Alphatron makes a great backup focus assistant.

Also have to comment on the depth of field....at the moment I am struggling as I reckon I could do with less, go figure !!

As for the battery life, is pretty much the same as the amount of time I get out of my Jet Ski when I give it a flogging, except in this case I just swap it out and don't have to go back to fuel up. It's a non issue.

Never planned for a second to use the camera for sound, own a Sound Devices MixPre-D and Rode Microphones which will do a better job anyway. For add hoc stuff, the Rode IXY off an iPhone works a treat.

Using this camera is like flying a helicopter....there is a lot to think about and you have to be on the ball at all times but wow !!!

I love this camera too.

I don't find it easy to operate.
No proper white balance.
It needs an EVF or an additional monitor unless I wing it.
No (tape) duration.
No in camera format, etc.

But the image is brilliant has more detail and latitude than what I'm used to with broadcast style cameras.
The camera is so versatile.
It could be rigged for studio or run & gun.
I'm enjoying using it in stealth mode with just a photo tripod.

You know I have been waiting to buy a Black Magic Camera since the BMCC was announced for delivery in July 2012. I paid in full for one and ended up getting my money back but couldn't resist the Pocket Camera, which I picked up today.

While waiting I reckon I have read every post on pretty much every forum that has a discussion going about Black Magic Cameras and based on all this information, I was pretty negative about buying one.

Anyway I ended up chasing one down and seriously, I have no idea what all the fuss has been about.

This camera is to die for....have been flogging it non stop since I picked it up and geez, it's damn good.

So...let me have a crack at responding to your comments :-

No White Balance - I can happily pick something close in Kelvin and then tighten up in Resolve...no probs at all.

Needs an EVF - Well here is something interesting, spent the last 4 hours with an Alphatron EVF and reckon now I can operate it without it. Will still use the EVF for the set shots but the camera on its own will be fine.

No Tape Duration - Huh....come from the days of tape and film and duration was always an estimate, its like a hot knife through butter for me and if I lose a shot, well....the crew can run it again, am sure they won't mind.

No In Camera Format - Thank goodness this is the case, whats with this idea that we need to be able to format ? Just grab another card and get on with life, they ain't that expensive....not if you are paying a $1000 for a camera and say another $500 for a lens ?

Now in saying all of this, I know that we have different priorities and in many cases, just stumping up the money to buy the camera is a massive undertaking. But faaaark, the idea of 20 Mybtes per second for $1000 almost brings tears to my eyes....what an amazing camera for the price.

How are you connecting the Alphatron to the PocketCam?
I've been unable to find a HDMI Micro to Mini cable and had not found an adapter/connecter that I'm happy with.

Yep, that is my next task.

Have been using a cheap articulated arm as well as a Mini to HDMI, Male to Male, HDMI to Micro.....it's a lot of cable and fine when I am just messing about but will chase down a short Mini to Micro instead.

As for the articulated arm, has a slight bit of play which is annoying so figure I might wander off to Bunnings (Hardware Store) and build me something more useful.
