pocket there is a firmware upgrade, 2.5 has been pretty much abandoned at this point so you will have to do this in post or down grade to a pocket, let the flaming begin

Track the black dot in Resolve and correct it with a mask...

Exactly. Only that it can still appear in Pocket cams as well, under extreme circumstances...

To solve the problem: the black spots are only ever seen inside clipped white highlights, so you can just add a plain white disc and track the black dot's movement. Annoying as it is, this is one of the easiest fixed problems, as it doesn't destroy any image data.

It does and has. It though is often masked by firmware updates. But the RED and from what I hear the Alexa suffered similar issues (also as a lot of cameras are heavily compressed footage, a lot of it may disappear in the compression circuitry.. thinking out loud there, though)

Being that this is the cinematography section, may I ask why people are filming directly into the Sun? This is ALWAYS problematic. If not from an aesthetic point of view, then at least from a sensor point of view as you can damage your sensor doing it.

Does no one set ratios any more? On "video" cameras we stayed under 100 - 105 IRE lest we clip and ruin the shots. Is it now standard fare to simply let the frame blow out completely for "effect"?

I'm sorry, I am just having trouble with the cinematography aspect of pointing my camera at the Sun and expecting everything to just "be ok".

That looks like about 10+ stops or more between your subject and the background. What did your meter say?

I have not seen any issues with my bmpc, I have shot pretty hard into the sun as I use this to take home videos, however my BMCC is just a pain in the arse especially knowing the fix is there, bm is just deciding to hold it back for whatever reason

This one reminds me of this other thread with the title "No more tests please" or something like that, haha!

BMPCC is a 995-dollar camera. You can't expect it to be the best camera in all aspects. I've found myself writing this multiple times on this forum lately: the camera is just a tool. If you know that your tool will give you problems when using it in an improper way, then find another way to shoot your shot. Or get another tool. [even though this is something that gets easily fixed in post]

It's not personal, I'm not writing this to you - I'm just a bit disappointed by how many people will thoroughly test their cameras up to the point where there is no sense in testing anymore. I understand the geekiness of some people about cameras, but it's not good to turn the spotlight on the tool - it's much better to turn the spotlight at what one can do with the tool, what stories one can say and what's the impact of them.

Just think that 20 years ago shooting was in any way that easy. Maybe in the future everyone will have access to the highest quality cameras, but until then, I think we should all agree that we're still in a transitional stage.
