Hello,

I have 3 cameras - Sony FX9, A7SIII & A7III. I'm trying to figure our is there a particular standard for rod support for ensuing I dont invest again in rod supports and accessories.

I have 2 cartoni fluid heads with euro style plates. I've been hunting for a stable, reliable & futureproofed quick release base plate system with either 15 LWS or 19 Studio. So my question which rod standard to go for or everyone is going towards.

From a equipment standpoint it would be whole 9 yards (mattebox, wireless FIZ follow focus, vmount, teredek, monitor & d-box)

Appreciate your inputs.

There is no general standard, but just the two you mention. Usually, heavier cameras use the 19mm version, while smaller ones are combined with 15mm.

15mm is typically used in lightweight builds.

If you have a studio baseplate then some parts of the world use 15mm studio and some use 19mm, with 19mm being far more common. It’s typically based around geography and history of use.

When I was working in a rental company in Oz 20+ years ago 15mm was used on studio builds but they’ve now more or less changed to 19mm.

If you have larger lenses, usually MUCH larger lenses then you go for the 19mm studio rods. With the cameras you mentioned I would be VERY surprised to see a studio build needed using either 15mm or 19mm rods.

This might help.
