Video Assist 12G - Monitoring S-Log3 in HDR10?

PostMon Aug 02, 2021 6:09 pm

Hi there,

Is it possible to have the Video Assist 12G display the full range of S-Log3 brightness values? Basically, I want it to perform a colorspace and gamma transform (like the Resolve node) to ST2084 gamut and Rec.2020. My end goal is to to record in S-Log3/S.gamut3 but have the screen and scopes let me monitor what my HDR10 delivery will look like. How do I do that?

Thanks!

For creating the transform, you should be able to apply a Color Space Transform node in Resolve to a clip, and export a 3D LUT. If that doesn't work directly, you can use the Trim LUT in Resolve: https://mixinglight.com/color-grading-tutorials/from-lightroom-into-davinci-resolve/

The challenge is getting the Video Assist into HDR mode. My understanding is that there needs to be a flag in the LUT to trigger it, but I've never managed to get that to work.
