Even though the new Studio ca eras are light weight (somewhat a disadvantage when shooting on sticks), you will need a fairly heavy tripod to add some mass and stability to the camera platform. The camera’s base plate is a 19mm bridge plate type design, which will need a video head with a similar width mounting plate for best performance. A tripod is not something you want to skimp on, get the best you can afford.
A small lighter weight tripod is not going to hold the camera steady, and you will see every little movement, and camera may bounce when walking around it on wood floors. The best is an O’Connor, but not in everyone’s budget. There are some nice alternatives out there from Miller, Manfrotto and others. Remember, the video head is the heart of a tripod setup, and a good fluid head is a must, especially with lighter weight cameras.
That said, a studio camera pedestal on a good dolly setup is the best solution, very stable, very smooth, but the highest cost.
Cheers
