Check out the image. Camera got to distributor on 10/01, which was after BMD claims all shipping cameras will have been calibrated correctly.... But I'm pretty sure this one slipped through the cracks. Am I right, or is this normal?

That's different from the "white orb" phenomenon we witnessed in earlier pocket cameras, which led to the recalibration offering. The white orbs were sharp edged white discs much larger than the light source. What you show here is highlight clipping with chromatic aberrration, i don't think this can be reduced by recalibration.

So, short answer: no, in my opinion this ain't "blooming sensor" in the sense that could be cured by recalibration.

Hard to tell because it's out of focus. Do a night time grab of some focused headlights to know for sure.

Marc - so this is a new phenomenon or something? I mean... it just doesn't look right. Perhaps the image doesnt do it justice but even though it is out of focus, the "orb" has hard edges as opposed to other lights/reflections in the frame.

To my eye it looks no different than this image of the notorious "orbs" http://b.vimeocdn.com/ts/448/172/448172900_640.jpg

I just don't want to lose time with my camera and send it in and then have them tell me there is nothing "wrong" with it...

Oh I agree that it's probably orbs but notice in the picture you cited that the light sources were in focus. You have to take bokeh out of the equation to be sure. I'd say it's probably a sick camera but one more test would nail it.
