Could mean that 4/3 is not dead. Being a vintage lens aficionado, I like the idea.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

I swear…the number of times I hear M4/3 is dead…..It’s been dead or dying for so long now…I’m bored with hearing that it’s dead….

Yet it’s the most open format of any mount, can be adapted from almost any other lens, and its one of the most widely supported in terms inter brand support. Just this year, new GH cameras, new native lumix lenses, and many rumours of new OM cameras and lenses and countless third party lenses.

I’e always thought it’s a great format for SMALLER cameras.

Odd that Sony doesn't make something between the RX0/RX100 and the RX1. They jump from 1" to "full frame". I'd love a camera that is somewhere in the middle.

BMD has the Micro Cinema/Studio Cameras, but they're 5 years old now. I wonder if we're ever going to get an update for those form factors. BMD's new cameras just aren't viable for VR/plenoptic use, and the current Pocket is hardly a crash cam.

Sony makes a whole line of APS-C cameras: the A6000 series. This started with the earlier NEX cameras. That's in between 1 inch and full frame.

Probably, although hopefully with BMD sensors, not Sony sensors. The Micro Cinema has a MFT mount, but its sensor is even smaller than MFT; it's a Super 16-size sensor.

It mght be close to 5yrs old but the Micro Cinema camera is probably the only BMD camera that is currently available that has the film look. Once its gone its gone and I'm not sure if the sensor is still being made.
I was playing around with diffusion filters on my BMD 4k and 6K cameras just to soften the lights and get the film look and it look like a 1080p but with side effect and no attractive grain I might as well shot it with my orginal BMPCC for better result.

for a recent project I was required to set the Pocket 4k to Prores 50fps, and indeed the look is like a normal video cam. Quite a difference, visible directly on the monitor. For the film look I rely on

- BRAW
- diffusion filters
- 24fps
- grain node at the end of the node tree in Resolve
- wide gamut
- Gen 5 colour science

Not exactly sure about the importance of each of the ‘ingredients’ for the film look, but that recipe works well for my taste. Reflected light (via steel, copper, and aluminium plates) instead of direct light is also something I prefer, but that’s probably another story.

EXACTLY! For R&G/Cinema Verite it is just about a perfect form factor.

What I still want to see is a m4/3 camera that captures 4:3 video from the full sensor.

Currently they all seem to limit video capture to a 16:9 crop or in some cases a 17:9 crop from the 4:3 sensor which just seems like a waste.

Closest I know of being able to get to this right now is to use one of the higher-end OM-D cameras (such as my OM-D EM-1 mk II) in still mode and use the electronic shutter on continuous shooting to capture at a video frame rate. This actually allows you to capture RAW "video" for a very short clip (up to the frame count limit of the buffer size), but without sound. Much longer clips if you shoot JPEG "video" of course, but still without sound.

Z CAM and some Panasonic models can record the full sensor in video mode.
