Camera mounted monitor for BMPCC 4k

PostSat Sep 11, 2021 1:21 pm

Hi Folks,
I'd like to purchase an eternal monitor that I can mount on top of my BMPCC 4K camera [Tilta cage]. Ideally, I would like it to replicate the full functionality of the excellent screen on the back of this camera. Would the Video Assist 5” 12G HDR be total overkill, the 4k already having extensive recording facilities?
Has anyone experience of an alternative device which would give the same level of functionality as the 4k screen. Ideally above 2000 nit
Budget is not really a problem, as long as I get a good, robust piece of kit, with the functionality I’m after.
I use a T5 SSD to record BRAW
Thanks in advance.

Take a look at Portkeys LH5P and BM5 WR, both of them are bright and also have camera control for BM cams using Bluetooth.

Like the other poster, go with the Portkey. Their monitors are excellent.
I have never used their EVF and I am interested in their 3G EVF. Does anyone have an opinion or recommendations of them?

Portkeys BM5RW looks like it might be just what I’m looking for. Thank You all for your input.

I own the OEYE 3G EVF for almost a year now. I use it with my bmpcc org, with the bmcc 2.5K and the ursa mini 4.6 K. I bought it second hand from B&H. It’s one of those decisions you wish you made sooner. I now can see what I shoot, especially on org and 2.5K.
Pretty sure the first owner returned it because of the fan causing a high pitch noise. It’s not the fan itself, as it’s hardly audible when you power it outside the evf. It’s the construction inside the evf amplifying the vibration of the fan. So a fault in the design/construction.
The easiest fix is to remove the fan. So that’s what I did.
The body of the evf holds 2 print plates. I sandwiched both between 3 thermal pads in the hope that would get rid of the heat. So far it seems to works. Thermal pads are dens so it does add some weight. It’s worth it imo.

-I only used three functions this far. Peaking (edge enhance), zoom (up to 3 times) and histogram. The screen is interrupted and goes to black when the presets are enabled/disabled. It’s less than a second but it’s there.
-The evf has a on off switch, which is great.
-The rubber eyecup is very comfortable an will settle to your eye socket with time. I never managed to loose it by accident, it’s there to stay.
-The Oled screen is very comfortable to look at.
-I have wet eyes, the view finder does not fog up. (maybe because I removed the fan :)
-I like the rod clamp, but then again my rig is build up with 15mm copper pipes hold together with https://www.smallrig.com/smallrig-90-de ... -2069.html Makes building rigs feel like playing with Lego.
-I never thought the viewfinder got to warm without the fan. The bmpcc org gets many times hotter.

Two reviews that will give you good and neutral information. One on the OEYE 3G EVF and the other a comparison with other evf’s.

Thanks Bunk Timmer for your experience with the OEYE 3G EVF. Just what I wanted to know.
