Some questions about next updates

PostMon Nov 04, 2013 12:02 am

Hi,

Before all, I'm french and i have a very poor english. Good luck to read me.

I'm cameraman in a press agency and I like to shoot interviews and cool sequences with DSLR. Also, H.264 is very painful codec. So I'm interested by the BMPCC ! Because it's low cost, very little and 13 stops of dynamic range' camera.

But, I have some problems with :

_ Can't Format ? it isn't a big problem, but that is surprising !
_ No Vu Meter ? I thought that was back of us, the 5d Mark II has the excuse to be old, not BMPCC !
_ Is it possible to import Log and Custom Picture to the BMPCC ? I think never have the time to go in DaVinci Resolve or any Color Software to edit my shoots.
_ IS is available with EF lenses ?

And, the really question is: Do you know if BM go to fix this problems in newt firmware ?

It's very sad to not buy a camera because of specifics like that. But it's a pocket camera, it's destiny to a lot of people, not only cinematigrapher. BM have to make a camera polyvalent or just correct in large use.

And, to finish: Anybody use BMPCC with Speed Booster ?

Thanks a lot !

I just want to reply to your last question about the Speedbooster. I'm a Nikon guy, not Canon, but I could not be happier with my decision to purchase the Metabones NF-M43 version of the Speedbooster. I wasn't sure exactly how it was going to perform with my lenses, especially the wide lenses, but I have found that the Nikon 20mm F/2.8D is now the lens I keep on the camera the most.

With the Speedbooster it's equivalent to the field of view of a 39mm lens at F/2.0, and this is great for most situations requiring a wide view. A friend loaned me the very pricey 14mm /F2.8D, and that's wonderful but I will have to give it back eventually and will not be able to buy it anytime soon!

When I want very shallow DOF and tons of light, I'll use the 50mm F/1.8D, which is equal to about 100mm @ F/1.3 on the Speedbooster (will probably get the 1.4 version sooner than later).

I don't think the EF Speedbooster is out yet, but when it is you won't be disappointed. I think this is a much better option than messing around with vintage, super 16 lenses, based on everything I have read about them so far compared with my own experience.
