6k Pro - buy the battery grip, or carry two more batteries?

PostTue Sep 21, 2021 12:05 am

Hi all. It may sound snarky, but it’s not. I’m trying to simplify my 6k Pro set up. I got to thinking, with the extra height, weight, and cost of the new battery grip? Isn’t it just as easy to keep 2 NP-F570s in your pocket and swap as needed?

My shooting needs are quick cinematic shots I can try a couple of takes on, not longer documentary shots. So it’s not likely I’m ever going to miss a shot because I’m swapping a battery.

The only upside I can see with the grip in such a scenario is that three batteries in a grip are easier to charge in camera when on AC power.

Any thoughts?

My 2 cent for others cameras is that I avoid bg to avoid too high camera, too much weight to use it on shoulder rig, on gimbal, on tripods.
I prefer to swap battery (I use plate with Sony 970 of 75w), less problems for my point of view.

570 gets me an hour. A 98wh vlock gets an hour or less on an Amira. I think that’s fine if you’re not event shooting. For interviews I add a vlock where the camera is on a tripod but the whole point of this camera is to keep it small and light in my view. It’s my b cam. I have no idea how people practically use these with all kinds of fragile, unstable bits and pieces hanging off.

Exactly! The point is to keep them nice and light hey.
Frankenrigs tend to be so cumbersome IMO.
