Wide angle zoom lens suggestion for BMPCC4K

PostFri Sep 24, 2021 9:51 am

Hi guys,

I would like to get some wide angle zoom lens ideas for my BMPCC4K. (I want to use it with a speedbooster)

What I am looking for is a lens that also works on my old Canon 700D, so mft lenses are out of the game.

I heard about two lens, Tokina 11-16mm, and Sigma 8-16 (but this one has strong vignett until around 11mm)

An other suggestions? thanks!

Have you considered the Tokina Cinema-ATX T2.9 11-20mm zoom? Before buying, check with the Metabones site to see if it’s on their list of compatible lenses. The image circle is 30mm so this should work with the SpeedBooster Ultra EF for BMPCC4K which would have an image circle about 21.3mm but likely will not cover the full BMPCC4K sensor at the widest focal length.

I use the 11-20mm with PL mount without any SpeedBooster.

I use a Tokina Cinema-ATX 11-16mm T3 with PL mount and a PL to MFT adapter on my Pocket 4K. (With the UHD crop it has an equivalent FF view of about a 22-32mm zoom.) I do not use any speed booster. I find this gives a nice wide view for this camera and works well for hand held shots. Any wider and movement requires more attention. On my URSA MiniPro at 4.6K this lens gives a FF view of about 15.5-22.5mm which I generally use with a tripod or slider. And a lot of the time I find my Sigma FF Cinema 20mm T1.5 in PL gives a nice enough wide view on the UMP 4.6K. Plus, the Tokina 11-16 does have some CA which I don't particularly care for and it is slower but it does allow for a wider view.

Greetings All!

I use the Canon EF-S 10-18mm with good results on both the 6K and the 4k with the 0,71 Speedbooster.
It is: Dirt cheap, stabilized, very small, lightweight.
The only downsides are: It ist cheaply made and slow.
I use it primarily for establishing shots and street views, mostly handheld. After processing the shots are indistinguishable from tripod shots.
I went to buy a metal bayonet on eBay to replace the plastic one on the lens but it is worth it.

Just my two cents...
Have a nice day!

Thanks for the suggestion guys. The Canon EF-S 10-18mm can be adapted to BMPCC4K (with a modified bayonet) but I guess I have to unscrew-scre every time I want to use it on my 700D? (with the original adapter) or can I use the modified bayonet version (like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/203252577423) with the 700D as well?
