Bmpcc Form factor

PostFri Sep 24, 2021 10:29 am

Hello folks !
and BlackMagic engineering team :)

First, i'd like to say that i'm extremely satisfied with pocket cinema line overall.
The colors, dynamic range, frame rates, accesability of the interface, CODEC(!!!) is a pure love and many other advantages for the price it have. Since i bought my first pocket 4k i sold all of my other cameras and switched completely on BM even for reportage and documentary work.

But there is one thing that gives me lemons, it's a form factor :D im sure that im not the only person who drops bmpcc on ronin s or rs2 and it would be absolutely amazing IF you concider creating something with more cubic design as red comodo or zcam. In my entire career i never used the hand grip of BM it's living in the cage and i'm using additional handles with external screens. I'm sure im not the only one who thinks that cubic style is more efficient in terms of grip.

I'd like to hear other opinions and maybe the engineering team will say "hey chill, we're working on it"

i hope you all having a great day ! :)

Definitely not the only one. I'd love a BM version of the Komodo, particularly for the global shutter. I'd say to keep it simple and relatively affordable, i.e. no monitor or audio (maybe an internal or a mic plug for scratch.) Put a super 35 or even ff sensor with in-body I.S. and that would be THE cube cam.

Coming from and mainly using Red I was also some what skeptical of the form factor.

But working with BMPCC for few months, I actually don’t mind it. Perfect for out of the box camera! No need for any Handels or rigging. Grab and shot. ;)

But I can imagine if they would do redesign it will probably come with a cost or a adaption of their Micro Cinema Camera.

nice work. I like the design. Is there a way to have the 3D model with textures in obj/fbx/blend format for download? It would be for non-commercial, personal use. Of course I understand if you do not want to share the model.

That's exactly what I would like to add to my Blackmagic camera lineup.

I like the screen where you see the record info even when in the menu. That should be added to existing pocket cameras.

+1 here. I have posted so many times asking for this. Let’s say goodbye to the DSLR form factor and get on the box form factor like the Komodo. Take the internals of the pocket 6K pro for starters and put it inside a box form factor. You can much do away with that screen and drop the price. Put a EF and adaptable PL mount on it.

Great concept. I would definitely prefer that with the exception that I would want the screen to flip back not forward. If you could flip it up and rotate it that would be ideal.
