Wide Lens option for Bmcc EF

PostMon Nov 04, 2013 9:36 pm

Hey everyone, I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but I recently just upgraded to the BMCC EF version and i had a question about which lens might be my best option for a wide FOV. Right now i'm torn between the Tokina 11-16mm or the Rokinon 16mm Cine T2.2. Now i've read everywhere that the Tokina has infinity focus issues, but i havent found much information about the Rokinon 16mm. I have heard that the Rokinon is a sharper lens, which is a total plus, but i wanted to know if the FOV of the 16mm would be wide enough? Any help or anyone who has experience with either of these lenses would be much appreciated.

I personally would (and did) go with the Tokina. Remember that on a 2.3x crop, the difference between 11mm (25.3mm) and 16mm (36.8mm) is 11.5mm. That's significant enough to actually have real utility for you. Do you want 36.8mm to be the widest you can go?

These are all compared to FF focal lengths, not S35...

Very good point, I was leaning more towards the Tokina, but have been worried about the focus problems, are you experiencing any problems when focusing to infinity?

I'm not, no, but it varied camera to camera early on. I believe they adjusted their manufacturing process to account for the flange issue, so if you were to buy the camera today you'd be fine.

Ok, great. I got my camera at the beginning of October, so i'm assuming it should be ok.

I'm selling the tokina 11-16 f2.8 dxii ef mount. I don't have focus issues with it, just haven't really needed it very much. I'm selling it for $500. Like new in mint condition with the box and unused warranty card. If you are interested hit me up. Joe@5aheadfilms.com.
