I think you'll find that the screen isn't a great tool for monitoring your images in the first place so I wouldn't view this as a serious problem. The screen isn't very bright and you'll have trouble seeing it outdoors, especially on sunny days. However, attaching an external monitor to the original BMPCC is always risky because the micro HDMI input is not very strong and can be broken if you're not careful. As long as you have a cage with a good cable clamp an external monitor is a good solution, although of course it adds weight, bulk, and complexity. But with an external monitor you get a much better screen (and a sunshade can be added), false color and other tools, and in the case of a Video Assist the ability to make a backup recording (or to record in ProRes on the monitor and raw in the camera).
