Anyone know a proper workflow?

Open Premiere, Click Import, Select Import as sequence, make your edit, send to Speed grade and have a great time waiting on the Media coder to render.

Or

Resolve > Premiere > Resolve > DONE

I've been trying to work out a proper workflow too.

Why would you go to Resolve first, then Premiere, then back to Resolve? Wouldn't you want to select and edit your clips first so that you know which ones you're going to want to grade?

You need to Debayer through resolve then edit the timeline in Premiere, than export an XML of the project, import back in Resolve which will leave you full quality DNGS with the new update timeline cut.

Alright, looks like I have a load of further study to do about which way I want to go.

I wasn't intending to go through Resolve. I was hoping to go through Premiere Pro to edit and use Colorista II to colour grade.

I figured that Colorista II is a powerful grading program in itself, it's cheaper, and I can purchase a Red Giant suite that will also include a bunch of other applications that I can use. I'd have enough money left to purchase another Red Giant suite for effects and still come up roughly on par with the cost of Resolve.

Resolve Lite is free and all you need for Pocket Camera

Ok thanks... except the point is the Premiere won't open the Cinema DNG files.

To everyone else: the Adobe guys are on top of it and looking into why Premiere cannot read these CinemaDNG files.

I have been posting on the adobe sites and I have uploaded a sample DNG file to my server,

http://www.symonty.org/dng/test.dng

Submitted a bug report here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/in ... e=wishform

Lets see what happens next.

******BUG******
Concise problem statement:
Premiere Pro will not open nor decode Black Magic DNG files from the BlackMagic Cinema Camera.
Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Import or drag the sequence of DNG files from the bmpcc into premere pro
2. They will be recognized as a sequence of DNG files
3. Error message appears.

Results:
Unable to Deocde , or File missing metadata error sequence is not usable.

Expected results:
Files should import into the bin for use in the edit.
Files are fully decoded and usable in After Effects and Photoshop so the files are compliant.

Lets see what happens , this will help my workflow 6.023×10^23 times

There's no noise reduction options though, as I understand it.

Plus I have a Red Scarlet on the way, I think Resolve Lite doesn't handle 4K.

FYI, it's really important to send a note to Adobe requesting this feature update ASAP. The more people that submit it, the faster they will work on it.

Doesn't Resolve Lite 10 handle 4k?

Hey Rob,
I filled out the form and within an hour heard from my friend/former colleague who's now at Adobe and who's worked in the video group for many years. He himself has a Pocket and indicated the engineering team has files, cameras, and firmware. They are getting a lot of requests. He said to "stay tuned".

I guess because Cinema DNG is a spec, there is some latitude as to how it gets implemented by each manufacture. Hence, it takes some time to respond after each finalized implementation.

I read somewhere that it doesn't. BM's own Resolve webpage sort of says it in a roundabout way 'film resolutions'....?

"Start with DaVinci Resolve Lite that you can download for free! It’s extremely powerful with unlimited correction nodes, layers, quality and file types. Then when you need extra power for noise reduction, multi GPUs, film resolutions and 3D tools, simply purchase DaVinci Resolve Software for only US$995."

Good to hear. Yes they got in touch with me and I sent some sample footage as well. I have a good feeling they are on top of it.

Has anyone tried this new update that came out today with Pocket Camera DNG raw files? http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/ ... ftpID=5699

The description to what has been added in the update is rather vague and I am out of the studio to try it at the moment. Let me know if anyone has any luck.

It has not appeared to add Compressed DNG abilities.

Yes, I saw that, too. I had filed a bug report in November and just received an email this morning. I have been impressed with Adobe's ongoing enhancements since they moved to the subscription model. Since I need several of the apps for my work, it's a no-brainer and nice to have access to the entire library of Adobe stuff.

I guess this is where CS6 begins to fail and pressure to move to the CC begins in earnest. :?

If Resolve supported high sample rate audio (96KHz and 192 KHz -- which is what the recorder I'm planning on replacing my Zoom with supports) and audio-track based sound syncing, I would do most of my work in Resolve. The editing tools in Resolve 10 are very good, and cover the majority of my needs, with that one glaring workflow breaking flaw.

I agree, I got an email directly from Staff at Adobe letting me personally know of the update. That's pretty sweet and happy to know they got my back.

When I raised this issue in the past with them, they were receptive to it and made sure they understood the problem.
