BCC - SSD storage needed on a typical day? Compared to DSLR.

Hello,

During another discussion something interesting came up.
What is the actual filesize on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera when recording RAW?

I wish to have a factor where I can multiply my typical project size.
How much SSD space (without offloading) do I need if a project is normally 20GB to record per day on a 5d MarkII with 1080p30?

I can calculate with the datasize per minute, but I'm not sure if this is the true filesize:

5d mk2 has around 38 megabits / second = 4.75 Megabytes per second
BCC has around 114 Megabytes per second

So do I need the 24fold, which is a plain 500GB SSD?

Ok 410.6 Gigabytes per hour is a lot.. but typically not more is recorded anyways for my type of work.
Surely I will carry at least 2-3 times of what is typically needed.
Anyway it makes sense to have that factor IMHO.

Please correct.
Thank you.

Cheers,
John

I think that would probably be ~580GB?

20gb would be about 1 hour of footage. I think they said it was ~30 per 240GB RAW so ~580GB.

Hi John,

Each DNG frame is about 5 MB (megabytes). You should be able to work out the storage requirement from this figure. i.e. 120 MB for 1 sec @ 24 frames per second. This does not include audio.

data rate is more like 45-48mbs on canon dslr / 1080p @23.98
