URSA 12K Lantern Lighting

I got my old lantern out and made a short lighting tutorial using the URSA 12K. Do you guys use lanterns?

How timely! Just got my first lantern today. Shot maybe about 20 seconds of video before my actor jumped off the chair and ran into the basement. I think maybe I had the light to close. Got a good exposure but some of the area looked milky. I'll try again when my actor is amicable.

Hi Jason
I enjoyed watching your video.
I am glad to see that lantern manufacturers have come up with a safe way of skinning a lantern.
Many a time I have risked getting my eyes poked out by those springy thingies.
I worked on a reality show where we had 2 lanterns on hand held candle sticks moving around with the camera people. The advantage was that the area would be lit 360 degrees so the camera could follow the subject wherever they wanted to go. We just needed to be behind the camera person. Worked well. At the time we used HMI 200w and 400w Jokers.

That’s a brilliant way to light moving subjects!

I ended up making a couple of ersatz chinese lanterns by mounting spherical porchlights on conduit for handholding with weather-resistant socket on the near-end of the pole. I used CFL globes which were sort-of okay as fill. They were one-offs for a low budget teaser and they have laid dormant ever since.
