URSA Broadcast G2 - Request ProRes 422 LT

PostWed Jan 26, 2022 12:26 pm

Hey there, I'm quite excited with my URSA Broadcast G2 but codec wise I was wondering why the Pocket 6K does have ProRes 422 LT and this camera (same sensor right..?) doesn't. The gap between H265 at 12.3MB/s and the next codec ProRes 422 at 73.6MB/s is quite big! The pocket 6k has somewhat an 'between' option to run at Apple ProRes 422 LT - 51 MB/s. For long shooing days at live conferences etc. that would be very very useful. Especially because the reports we make at those events don't need all that pixel glory from regular ProRes 422 anyway.

Very happy with the camera!

That's a very different codec. You can't compare a GOP codec with an I-frame only codec quality wise at the same or even similar bitrates. If you need such long recordings, rather get an external recorder that can record into H.264 or 265 directly, if your computer supports it when editing.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

h.265 would be a cool option to have!

Well.. my URSA supports H265 and H264. I'm quite happy with the results I'm getting out of that codec. But that was not the question.

We use the URSA now as an interview A-cam, and we have a Pocket 6K as a B-cam. We shoot ProRes LT with the Pocket 6K, but that's not available with the URSA. So I get different results from an otherwise same sensor.

I would love to have the option to use ProRes LT, just like on the Pocket 6K.
