Best Lens for prompter ?

hello,

I think of mounting a Micro Studio Camera 4K for a telepromter.

What lens should I use with a presenter located at 3m to 5m, and specific prompter constraints (one way windows, optical abberations...) :?:

I've shot a decent amount on APS-C (Pocket 6K) and Super 35mm (URSA 4.6K; Canon C300ii & C300iii) sensors on teleprompters. I've gotten away with 35mm as one of the widest options. And, then I've shot 50mm or 75mm on the tighter end.

Now for 3m to 5m you're going to be a good distance away from your subject, so you're going to probably want to be in the more mid-range focal length. So a 35mm might be really good for the Micro Studio 4K due to its smaller sensor size.

Another consideration for distance you place your subject is the actual size of the teleprompter screen. The larger the better for farther distances. This is because the farther the subject is the hard it is to read the smaller screens that may have smaller text.

hello,

@Tim, you pointed to real issues:
A zoom may perhaps be interesting if distance to presenter change ?
But One way glass may affect luminosity so fixed lens is better ?

Actually, I’ve primarily used zooms on the teleprompter shoots. There is a slight light loss from the prompter glass. But it’s less than 1 stop, maybe ⅔ of a stop. I’ve never measured the exact amount.

hello,

Got at last a Micro Studio Camera at decent price ;)

Following Tim advice for this sensor size, I look for a zoom < 40mm.
Just need control via SDI

The 4 zooms recommended by BMD have apertures reaching 5 or more.
I look for a better solution with MFT lenses or others with converter...

have a nice day.

You mean control of the lens via SDI? That's going to be difficult.
Better speed can be found with old S-16 zooms.

Just shot a teleprompter shoot this week. UMPG2 was the camera, and used the DZOFilm Vespid Prime 35mm T2.1 lens.
