1.5.1 Firmware update failure

Downloaded 1.5.1.
Uninstalled 1.5, then re-booted.
Installed 1.5.1, re-booted again.
Started software.
Attached pocket cam.
Selected firmware upgrade.
Box pops up says, "Software Update Failed. Please power cycle your device and try again."
Camera will not power cycle (will not power up or show any signs of life).
Battery was full.
Tried two other batteries known to be fully charged (1 Nikon, 1 BM).
Nothing.
Yikes!

Sent form message to support (about a minute ago) . . . unable to tell if it went through though because the page never changed after clicking on send (in either of two browsers). Will likely call tomorrow.
Windows 8.1

Did you try redownloading the firmware? Just checking.

No I didn't.
It seems that all features of the software are functioning but the camera is dead.
Something must have caused a hiccup at the very beginning of the firmware upgrade process.
(the upgrade to 1.5 a week or so back had gone without a hitch).
Plugged in to the USB or completely disconnected I've got a blank screen (and I've tried 3 different and fully charged batteries . . . BM or Nikon only).
May dig out my AC source in the morning and try that before calling BM.
Will report back regardless of outcome.

same happened to me, but somehow i made it work.
i was trying to boot the camera with button combinations.
i plugged the camera on the mac, run the software. on my screen it war saying " please connect the camera".
then i pressed power + rec button together for some seconds, and the firmware bar start to grow.
i tried lots of combinations, i think it was power + rec.
well, my camera was dead and now it's alive and kicking.

If you google hard enough (though I too think it's pwr+rec) you can find the factory reset/force reset for a black magic camera. I think it's a 10 sec pwr/rec hold though.

Spoke with BM Repair at Fremont, CA.
Hard reset didn't work.
Will be on it's way to the Golden State tomorrow . . .
I will update as things develop.

Man sorry to hear that.

I think a user on the other forum had the same issue with the last update, turns out he was on battery and not plugged in.

I had a firmware scare once with a GH2 and never relied on battery power for any firmware update on any device ever again. Not saying that was the issue, just better to take that out of the equation.

Hope it gets back to you soon.

I'd forgotten to follow-up/report the outcome on this . . .

Sent my pocketcam off via UPS (ground...that was a mistake, 10 days coast to coast).

Communicated with Gilbert via e-mail.
Pretty quick turn around.
Arrived home working.

Comments from the repair folks: "We were able to get it up and running. Turns out it was just a matter of very specific steps that need to be taken at the end of the update. We are now checking all functions and it should be ready to be shipped out later today or tomorrow."

I'll have to take their word for it (no reason not to . . . it's working). It was plugged into an AC outlet when attempting the update but, unlike the 1.5.0 update I'd done before, it went dark almost immediately when the update started. There was no opportunity to take any additional steps. Never powered up again (thus the sending to repair).

I am satisfied overall with the experience.

I do have one question though . . . isn't the pocket supposed to double in size on the screen when you tap it (like the BMCC EF)? If so then I've lost that function.

All else seems to be in place and I've got some very encouraging clips...only shooting RAW.

The pocket doesn't have a touch-screen. The enlargement is a doubletap of the "OK" button if memory serves.

Your memory serves you well, but one should add that your really have to doubletap pretty fast to get to the magnification...
