Rick Young: Why we need RAW, why we need Compressed

PostMon Dec 09, 2013 12:34 pm

Hi Everyone

Last week I gave a presentation at the Movie Machine Digital Cinema Festival about using RAW and using Compressed.

The bottom line from my presentation is we need both - RAW for productions where you have time in post and lots of storage; compressed for quick turnaround and projects with massive amounts of media.

The footage looked spectacular on the cinema screen from both the BM Cinema Camera and BM Pocket Camera. I would say undoubtedly cinema quality.

Catch you soon,

Rick

Thank you, your video was very informative. I wasn't quite sure how I was going to incorporate RAW into my workflow, but this certainly helps me figure out what kinds of shoots to utilize RAW on. For me (on BMPCC) it will mostly be ProRes, but maybe something worthy of RAW will come along.
