Black Magic .MOV Files will not open

PostSun Jul 10, 2022 9:31 pm

We filmed a couple movies and the camera man used a black magic camera. There was a falling out with the director and he gave us all the files on an external drive. They are in .mov format which should technically open in quick time on a mac...they will not. I have tried numerous programs to get them to open but they all say they can't recognize the format. I have tried to use converters to convert them but still to no avail. The former camera man will not help us and just say they are all there. I have used VLC Player, Devinci Resolve, Fusion Studio, Aimersoft, HD Video Converter Factory Pro and several others.
When I right click one of the files and look at the details, It has no details for Audio of Video, only file information. Under the general tab it shows it to be a Quick Time File (.mov). They are showing the correct data file size.
Can anyone help me with this issue? I can provide more information if needed.
We have 2 films that are lost if we can't retrieve these files.

Hi, has anyone found a solution for this. I have an entire shooting on 2 SSD's shot in Prores 422 with the file extensions .mov and they won't open. Shot in a BMPCC6Kpro. I had previously shot with it without a problem. For this last shooting I updated the firmware.

As Peter suggested, post a sample to a cloud service and somebody will try.
I never had any issue with ProRes in .MOV from our UMP 4.6K.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
