4k screen cover / viewfinder?

PostMon Jul 18, 2022 3:27 pm

Hi --

Can anyone recommend a screen cover / viewfinder for the BMPC4K?

I purchased a Small Rig Sun Shade for my camera but I still have trouble seeing the screen in bright daylight. I did find some options for what I am looking for on B&H but the price point of $150+ was a more than I was hoping to spend. I don't need something that magnifies the screen view but really just something that covers the whole screen with a hole I can look through with one eye to see the screen.

Thanks

I ended up buying the Kinotehnik LCD Viewfinder for Black Magic Pocket Camera which I found on Amazon for $120. I will post more about it once I have it in hand and have used it.

I have used that on my original BMPCC and it's OK.
Unfortunately, the glue for the magnetic frame tends to become soft after some time. And then, be careful never to grab the camera by the viewfinder. Logic tells you, but with a small camera you may try that in a hurry ;-)
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Thanks for the info. I just bought a shoulder strap for the camera as well and I usually shoot with the camera on a tripod. I also have a mini cage rig with a handle so I mostly pick up the camera with that.

I'm traveling at the moment so I won't get to check out the view finder until next week when I'm back home.

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

That's the one I was referring to.

As an alternative to the adhesive/magnetic frame supplied by Kinotehnik, you could instead mount a small quick release plate on the top of their VF, and connect it to a camera cage via a small magic arm, similar to this:

This has been a convenient solution for me (thanks to Kim Janson!) Cheers.

If you are going to use this with the SmallHD Focus OLED, it will not fit. The OLED is a 5.5” not 5”. You can mod it to fit but for me it looks bad as if frankenriging it.

The original unit I order was the wrong size (only 3" or 3.5") so I returned it and got the correctly sized larger one. As others pointed out the sticky tape for the metal bracket is less than ideal for attaching to the camera. In fact the sticky tape that came with it did not align with my camera so I bought double side tape at the hardware store to better secure the plate to the camera.

I am going to check out the more secure mount option someone posted about above.
