Approved media sizes

PostMon Jul 18, 2022 3:43 pm

BM's approved media list specifies storage sizes. For example, for the BRAW 50p 6k it says you can use a brand called Komputer..... but only calls out I think 128 and 256 but not 512 (might be 64, 128 - 256). Would it be safe to assume that the larger size may be newer and just hasn't made it onto the list or is it a write speed issue like you see with a T5 vs a T7? 6k 50 fills a card pretty fast so doubling the storage of the largest specified card would have clear benefits.

I would not count on it. Different sized storage modules can behave in vastly different ways. its not uncommon at all for a storage device in the same series to be much slower at the higher capacity end of the spectrum.

Is that the Komputerbay cards? I've had no issues at all with my Komputerbay 256GB card. However I don't think that manufacturer actually sells a 512GB card, which would explain its absence from the approved list.

My preference is to not used a CFast that’s too dense. The denser they are, the higher the error rate. So I would rather take 4 x 256Gb card than 1 x 1Tb. It also gives me some safety net in case a card fails. The only one I go with a 500Gb is the T1 SSD, and that is only if the post team requires it.
