I just bought a T7 shield and recorded for 35 min on my BMPCC 4K at 8:1 full sensor raw with no problems. There are upgraded parts compared to the T7 and T7 Touch.

There's a good article with test results on the Tom's Hardware website. The sustained write performance looks good.

They put up those big numbers on them but the only one that matters is the V30 one since its guaranteed to be able to sustain 30MB/s continuous recording. Everything else is UP TO.

Ehm... Panasonic develop their support, their SD card high speed, they could sugget their sd card, like in pro enviroment sony suggest their card // cfast // cf express and more... but Panasonic never did it.
i was embarassed be cause i thought they answer me with some of their expansive card, but with an answer.

Is it a T7 Touch Portable? I’m pretty ignorant about the T7 SSDs but I’m in the market for 2 TB.

I am curious also.
What version of T7 are you talking about.
T7 original.
T7 Touch
or
T7 shield
?
All of them are portable but are different from each other.

And the only one that's officially supported is the T7 Shield, and anyone that says the non shield versions of the T7 work fine promise to buy those drives from you when they don't work and finance your re-shoot when they don't sustain write speeds.

The Samsung T7 Shield 2 TB portable units must be popular at my local Best Buy. Several 1 TB in the store but zero 2 TB.

As you may know, all my media is from Wise-Advanced. However I just ordered the approved Samsung T7 Shield 2 TB external SSD for use with the BMPCC4K. May be a couple of weeks before I can begin testing it, but shouldn’t be an issue. Will get a thorough ’trial by fire’ in May and especially June at the music festival.

I've been using this enclosure with a Crucial MX500 since I bought my Pocket 6k in 2020 with no problems what so ever.

Even now buying this and even a 2TB Crucial drive is cheaper than buying a Samsung drive.

Here's a Amazon List I made with the enclosure and cable

Hi,

I've talked with the samsung support. The T7 Shield and non shield are inside technically the same.
So both should work properly.

Possible for the most parts but there are tons of people that have had problems with T7 NON Shield and BM has never approved them far any device for some reason.
T7 Shield in the other hand has ben approved and is working with camera settings that NON Shield could not handle at all, for the same people that had problem with the NON Shield .
So there must be something that they are not telling or the support person not knowing.

And that alone that BM never approved T7 NON Shield but T7 Shield and T5 were approved nearly right away must tell something.

Came by to check out the comments and feedback regarding the Samsung T7. Seems outside of this forum the standard Samsung T7 has become the go to drive for most.

The only difference between the standard and shield models is its enclosure.

Videomaker would not endorse these drives unless they have proven themselves.

Both T7 2TB variants work great with my Pocket Cinema 4k. I have no doubt that these drives have put a serious hurt on the C-Fast card manufactures.

All the best.

Pretty known in the industry the T7 and T5 stuff uses lowest quality NAND.

I guess that most people aren’t as au fait as you with what everyone in the storage industry knows. You should maybe explain that to Blackmagic and suggest that it re-evaluate its approval of Samsung’s T series storage.

On the other hand, lots of people know what videomaker is, seeing as how it’s been published for 38 years, but it’s probably not professional enough for you. You can find out what videomaker is via something called Google, or do you expect someone here to explain what it is to you?

Maybe drop the snarky attitude and hostility?

The non shield are not on the approved list for the Pockets. I don't need to tell Blackmagic this since they already know. And the 38 years old magazine has absolutely no clue what they're talking about apparently.

Also googling "videomaker" gives me a gazillion results on how to make videos and apps. And a website that seems to be made 38 years ago. Was even afraid to click on it, looked full of vulnerabilities.

Maybe get out of your United States bubble and think about the rest of the planet who most likely never heard of this magazine. So yeah, without any sort of context I truly expect someone here to explain what "videomaker" is.

And yeah, its not professional enough for me. I'll take the test results of sites like Anandtech and Tech Powerup and my knowledge of computer science and Samsung processes and the experience of John Brawley over some random magazine.

In the real world these drives work very well. Ask any "professional" who uses them.

Regarding my snarky attitude, I could care less and consider my comments reserved compared to some of the snobby comments one can easily find here.

Wasn't replying to you. And the comments here have nothing to do with snobbery. Samsung T series uses bottom of the barrel barely TLC NAND. They're not meant for video shooting. The fact that some work is the exception to the rule.

And it will get even worse as time goes on, QLC NAND is being pushed on consumers because its "good enough" while SLC NAND is all but gone and only used for cache etc. And once that SLC cache is gone, the drives plummet in speed. Hence why they're garbage for video recording.

Its Samsung QLC rated at 460MB/s. QLC drives often drop speed to mechanical HDD rates.
I can't imagine it being good for anything 4K.

I use a 870QVO rated at 500+MB/s in my system which forks fine for editing as a source drive
since its full speed when reading. However writing on it is a different story.
