Sound Devices - Pix 240i for recording RAW to BMCC

PostMon Dec 16, 2013 11:45 am

Does anyone know if it would be possible to record RAW with this device from the BMCC ? This recorder has clean 3G SDI for recording 12 bit 4:4:4. Any help would be greatly appreciated !

No RAW. The PIX 240s only do compressed ProRes and DNxHD. The i version does 4:4:4 but you won't get that from the BMC. I had a PIX 240 and sold it when the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 came out and bought a TVLogic 5.6" with the change. The shuttle did the same job but I wasnt paying big money for a crap screen.
BM cameras have an onboard SSD recorder tricked out to record RAW. The 4K would only be 1K more than the 240i. One difference is the 240i records balanced audio. Another is it records proper time code.
