[Feature request] Saved lens info for non-electronic lenses

PostThu Aug 25, 2022 1:55 pm

It would be great if we could get saved quick settings for non-electronic lenses in the lens metadata screen.

How I see it is, when going to the lens metadata screen, we could hit a button for saved lenses, and in there, we would have a list of saved lenses that we can name how we like, edit information on, choose, and then any data we have saved will be auto-filled-in on the main lens metadata page.

This would be really handy for manual lenses, where you have to write all the information in each time.

It would be even more useful when using a focal reducer with non-electronic lenses because it would save you from having to do the maths when entering the focal length, which is really useful for the new gyro stabilisation feature.

I’m open to this idea. One, there needs to be an update to have the autocomplete lens manufacturers expanded to some of the new companies. Two, maybe selecting the lens manufacturer is step one to then choose the lens from a list of lenses from that manufacturer. But still have a custom entry field in the event the company introduces a new lens kit in the list. Then you can save that entry.

Overall, I’d love for this lens metadata to be updated. I’d like for us to be able to access it from the Bluetooth app control to make typing info easier.

Yes, good ideas.

Definitely can see that using bluetooth would be useful, as would lens selection via manufacturer.

I almost wonder if there could be a List Option of Manufacturers. When you go to the page the default is "No Manufacturer Selected" and when you hit it a scroll list appears and you can scroll and select your option. Then the next field is "No Lens Selected" and the Lens options that are given are derived from the Manufacturer selection. It works with a code qualifier.

Something like a "If manufacturer = 'Zeiss' then display lens '$ziesslist'" I'm sorry if that isn't the correct code. I'm not a coder for the precise type of code that would be used for the camera. Again, I know this is something that is possible via various type of coding language whether PHP, Javascript, or the other languages.

Still such coding for a camera is all dependent on what the OS can handle. I think Blackmagic's UI and OS can easily handle such a challenge. Naturally lenses with /i Technology (PL), LDS (PL), or electronic lens connectors (EF) can auto-populate those fields.

The main reason I want this to be handled via Bluetooth is because that it's easier for an AC to input it from a mobile device as opposed to the camera operator having to go into the camera to do it. But auto-population from lenses with data is always ideal. So the AC or Camera Operator can input the info in camera or via app on mobile device.
