Color matching URSA/Pocket Cinema - HELP

PostThu Sep 01, 2022 12:04 am

I'm shooting with an URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 and a Pocket Cinema 6k (1st gen). I get the sensor sizes are different but I am setting all other settings exactly the same with no LUTs applied. The URSA shows very vivid color almost as if there is a LUT applied while the Pocket Cinema looks almost LOG (washed out).

Am I missing a setting or something else? I've upgraded both cameras to their most recent firmware. Just not sure what else I'm doing wrong.

Settings are:

ProRes 422
Ultra HD resolution
Video dynamic range
24 fps

Thanks for the help in advance.

If you're seeing that drastic a difference in the camera LCD screens, it's highly likely you've got one of the viewing LUTs turned on in USRA camera menu. A viewing LUT is not needed when you have the recording set to "Video".

Also be aware that those two cameras have entirely different sensors, and that the Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K G2 uses BMD's Gen4 color processing, while a 6K Pocket with the latest firmware uses BMD Gen5 color processing, so the image will look somewhat different even with the same record setting of "Video".

To get the best match between any two cameras, you should set the auto white balance to a grey card rather than setting both cameras to the same Kelvin and Tint settings. This is true even if they were the exact same model camera and firmware version.
