Interesting story on how it was made, its success, and why it was abandoned even when it always sold its full inventory BMD is mentioned ar 22:00. They are still selling at 4times the original retail value.

I always loved the concept of this camera. If I had bought a Boxel H16 after being introduced to it in college and gotten some nice C-Mount 16mm Glass, then I would have had the glass for the Digital Bolex and it would have been perfect for emulating that 16mm look.

However, you could still achieve that with the BMCC2.5K to a degree. Although the form factor of the Digital Bolex was closer to the classic film Bolex. And, that's where I think it really shined.

It was too hipster, modelled more on amateur retro Super 8 cameras, than the original Bolex H16 (which was more box and strangely how some modern body forms look). 2K and a small CCD had very short legs at the time too, when the Red One had long since shown 4K and large Cmos was the future. I still love my near perfect Beaulieu 4008ZM4, having said that, even if it will never see another Super 8 cartridge again.
