Hey everyone,

Here is a selection of shots taken with the Great Joy 85mm 1.8x anamorphic on the BMPCC6K & 6K Pro.

This was my third time shooting anamorphic and again I really enjoyed the experience!
For this test footage I wanted to test this lens on what I would use this focal length for, which is mainly details and close ups.

I shot a lot of it on a tripod which is rare for me.
I filmed indoor and outdoor as well as in overcast and harsh light conditions.

In the grade there is also a mix of black and white and colour as I wanted to make this test footage a bit more interesting and I loved the results.

Filmed on the BMPCC 6K & 6K PRO, in 6K BRAW.
Mostly between T2.9 and T5.6.
(Original x1.8 desqueeze ratio)

Stay tuned for the review!

Let me know if you have any questions :).

Cheers,
Flo

Great work as always.

Not long received my 35mm Great Joy to go with my 50mm, and looks like I'll be rounding out the set with the 85 too.

Flaring looks a bit more like the 50mm. Did they give you a choice of flare colours or is it a neutral flare like the 35? Also, I imagine this also has a constant squeeze factor like the 35?

Thanks mate!
I didn't have a choice in the colours.
And yes, it does flare like the 50mm has a constant squeeze factor like the 35 :)

Great news. Sounds like the best of both worlds, as I know some people were bothered by how little the 35 flared in comparison to the 50, which was far and away the "cheap" anamorphic with the subtlest flares on the market.

THose lenses have a great look! Thanks for sharing.

I do have a creative suggestion and I don't mean any disrespect as some people do here...,

Framing with anamorphic lenses mean approaching set design and actor blocking differently. In old movies shot in this format, like the camera is locked off and the actors walk from one side of the frame to another, they really use the wider FOV to show the location and a sense of space. You should check out There Will be Blood by PT Anderson which has that anamorphic look. The camera is father away from the talent.., at least that's what it looks like to me.

I'm gonna look into testing these myself! Thanks!

Thanks for watching and for your input!
This was just a test shoot so not a lot of planning was done. Up until now I only had one or two of these lenses so I was waiting for the full set before approaching a project with them.
PS I love There Will be Blood and pretty much every movie from PTA :)
Cheers

Some lovely evocative images there. Nice work.

What aspect ratio did you end up with? Looks much wider that 2.39:1.

Hi, your vid looks great, very wide. I've noticed that when I look at your video in Youtube on my phone horizontally it goes right across the screen. you have black bars on top and bottom but none on the sides. I can't seem to make this happen when I upload a vid to youtube. It looks good on my computer, but on my phone, there are always black bars on the side. I used and anamorphic lens 1.33:1 and set the clip attributes to the same, but it always seems to render in 16:9. Any info you could provide on getting that beautiful stretched look on a youtube upload would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Randy
