How to properly use a cage for BMPCC OG

PostTue Mar 28, 2023 5:58 pm

I recently bought a cage for my BMPCC OG mainly to protect the fragile HDMI input. The cage is a Genesis Cam Cage Kit for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera which is able to lock the micro HDMI cable. I wonder if I should constantly keep the cable on the camera (thus the camera should be always rigged) or insert and lock it on the cage only when I use the camera.
My guess is that I should always keep the cable on camera in order to avoid damage, but every thought or advice would be appreciated.

When I still used my first BMPCC, I had a short HDMI adapter fixed to the cage all the time and plugged a longer cable into that for shooting.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

You have good instincts.

Keep the short HDMI cable plugged in and attached to the cage.
If you are planning to use external power, do the same thing.

In fact put short cables on all the in/out plugs. This will protect the PCB.
