URSA Mini Pro 4.6k G2 Menu Update?

It seems like the UMP G2 isn't getting any more firmware updates despite still being offered for sale. Is there someone from Blackmagic that can let us know definitively if there will ever be another update?

At the least I would really love to have the new streamlined UI that's come to the other cameras. The menu system and screen are better organized and the histogram is much more useful. Is that possible?

I wish they would but I bet it never happens. It's been a really long time since the last firmware update that did anything at all to the G2.

Every 18 months or so, this request for an updated UMP46G2 firmware is made. As a product that’s still actively being sold, one would think that the firmware will be updated to meet the needs of many. Unfortunately, for several years now not a word has been said or replied from BM. I doubt this will change anything.

I would definitely be in favour of at the very least a menu update. Having the ability to customise frame guides, the pocket's histogram and just the general feel of the pocket would be incredible. Don't get me started on the Gen 4-Gen 5 thing. Would LOVE to actually look at the gen 5 raw in-camera.

Maybe too much of a threat to the UMP 12k sales.

I think the UMP12K made the G2 forgotten for the Blackmagic Camera Development Team. I doubt there will be another firmware update for it ever. Never ever again. But it’s still a great camera and I love using it every time.

You may be right, but just like the BMPCC4K, it’s still sold as a new camera and new purchasers would expect some updates. My first video camcorder was a Canon and it had an update when it was new but then nothing more… except of course several new camcorders with new capabilities but I’d already soured on camcorders once RED and later BMD offered cinema cameras.

It's a strange one the URSA Mini Pro G2, the only currently sold camera stuck on Gen4 color science (in camera), additionally the G1 has a more up to date firmware. Can't think of any other camera series where a G1 is more up to date than a G2, but hey BMD disrupts by not playing by the rules.

The UMP4.6K G2 is a very dependable camera that’s why it has been accepted in many professional circles, more than the UM12K. Unfortunately BMD has not given any attention to it since they have been trying to sell the UM12K over the G2. I think if they work on updating the G2 firmware, more of the UMP4.6K will be sold. But that puts the UM12K at a disadvantage. Hence they know they can’t take the G2 off market because the industry still depends on it, but they want to sell more 12Ks. If you notice, the UM12K is still not on Netflix list, but the UMP4.6K G2 has been on it for a longer period. That’s why it is still being sold.
