Where does everyone source music from?

PostMon Feb 17, 2014 9:49 am

I'm often amazed at how the right song can really add so much to a video. New or old movies, short films or just BM test videos. With different music, the entire video just feels... well, different.

So my question is, where do people source music from?

And do you listen to a lot, and save some with specific moods in mind?

Do you think about the music before you shoot, or just during the edit?

Any thoughts at all would be wonderful :) Thanks!

Usually Jamando.
Searching for Create Commons songs with no NoDerivatives and no NonCommercial clause.
(Banners on the same page are the video are already commercial use.)

However it's hard to find songs that work well as a soundtrack.
No vocals (there are tons of songs tagged "instrumental" with someone suddenly starting to sing),
balanced stereo image that doesn't distract from the story (some artists seem to prefer strange ways of moving instruments around in space)
and not overly attention requiring (again to not distract from the story).

Thank you! I just had a quick look at the site, I'll have a better dig around later today but it looks great.

A shame about the mis-tagging, I can imagine how gutting it would be to find what at first sounds like the perfect addition to your video, only to have someone sing part way through!

I use Magix Music Maker and make my own. It's pretty easy if you have any kind of musical background at all.

Ah, I'm always impressed by people putting together their own music. Sadly my musical background goes as far as... listening to a lot of it :P
