What SSD will work with the BMPCC 6K G2?

PostMon Dec 18, 2023 12:22 am

Can anyone please tell me, without a doubt, what SSD will work with the BMPCC 6K G2? I keep reading that this drive will work, that drive will work...does anyone really know?

Thanks,
Phil

I've used this combination since 2020 without fail.

Depend of compression. Crucial is good for pc which give redundancy but for Blackmagic Design cameras not give ever good result to me.

It’s not in a Blackmagic Design list, it’s ever better to stick to approved list when you buy. You avoid tons of risk.

For example if you find work fine for you, but you ever use higher compression or do smaller clip, that work fine.
Many support work fine in general but when you stress it with longer clip, with lower compression or at first section of disks. Many support when you fill it or during recording with different temperature give you different performance.
I tested myself tons of disk to avoid to use nvme that suffer of thermal throttle and most of them work fine at start but after a bit of work or in half of size start to give me problems.

Compression does not matter. It will run it. You better results with it than those crappy Samsung T5 drives people were recommending.

Not sure why you are commenting something that you haven't used.

Compression does matter if is more or less change datarate and influence the use of cache of disk and of enclosure.
Anyway i tested also 4 different crucial ssd, with different enclosure, and when you put under stress, long shooting, give me frame dropping in the middle and the end part of shooting ( i do long shooting for theater or event, hours), be cause when you reach the end part of disk (disk near to full) reduce a bit the speed. now are in the computer that use to write here :-D

when you shoot 60p and or lower compression you can reach the limits of support.
remember that braw is a codec that balance the weight of datarate in function of dectails, if you shoot in small dof you can do everything, if you shoot in deep focus you have more dectails and datarate grow up faster.

ShaheedMalik i not told that you are wrong, i only want to tell that is not so easy to define reliable a support, and everyone shoot could need different performance and what can be good for you cannot be good for others. :-D
if seems i was rough, please excuse me, english is not my main language :-D

Samsung T7 Shield will surely work. I have this camera and I did not have any issues with this disk.
