BMPCC 4k Cameras stops recording after a minute

PostTue Jan 23, 2024 5:34 pm

Just recently I have been experiencing problems with both of my 4k cameras which is weird. When I tried to attempt to record, it will only record for a little over a minute and it will instantly stop recording. I get this (!) sign blinking in the red record circle on the display screen prior before it shuts off. This is happening with both of my 4k cameras. I have not had this problem in the past so it must be something in my settings or the cards that I am presently using. I have used various cards. I also used a Samsung T5 SSD drive and I still experienced the same problem. The cards I use are Extreme Pro San disk 170mb/s S2/XC 128GB. I can seem to understand what's going on.

What firmware setting are you using in the BMPCC4K? Some users have had media problems at firmware 8.1 that have corrected themselves is you downgrade to 7.9.1.

Best to use media that is currently supported in the approved media lists posted on the BMD Support webpage.

Bad drive / bad cable.

Get an ORICO enclosure and a Crucial MX500 drive.

That media can record since ProRes proxy no more… please check the spec of card before to buy.
170mbit on read not on record.

It should be v30 card, if I remember correctly, not enough to record nothing…

T5 failed at what codec/compression/resolution?
Without infos we cannot judge but I can think
data rate problem, more than that disk can support.

Thank you so much for your replies. I have both SD cards and T5 SSd Drives and I am experiencing the same problem. I have tried recording in Pro Res 422 in 4k DCI, Ultra HD even HD only. Nothing has worked with both cameras.

Thank you for all your help. Problem solved. I just changed the cord for my T5 SSD drive and it works fine.

Great!
Cables are such a frustration as they can reliably work and then fail for no apparent reason. I had a cable that worked, then consistently failed. But after some time, I tried the cable again and have been using it successfully for years as the cable I use to copy media to my computer. If it failed to copy, no big deal; but I don’t use that cable to record media from the camera and that would be a disaster.
