Camera stops recording after a few seconds

PostFri Jan 26, 2024 4:30 pm

Hi, we have 2 Ursa Mini Pro 4.6k cameras and today one of them decided to give us problems. The camera will stop recording after a few seconds and an exclamation point icon appears on the record button. This happen to us while recording to CFast with official AngelBird BMD cards, as well as swapping to the SSD recorder - the same result in all scenarios. Any help is appreciated!

Does it also happen when you change to a lower resolution or frame rate?

Camera stops recording after a few seconds

PostFri Jan 26, 2024 5:50 pm

Please provide more information about the cameras and cards and SSDs that are failing:

When was the last time you successfully used the media?

When the media is connected to the computer, do you eject (unmount) the media before disconnecting the media?

Do you pause a few seconds after ejecting the media before physically removing the media?

What card readers do you use for the cards?

Where do you format the media (in camera or on a computer)?

How are they formatted (exFAT or HFS+)?

Exact models of the camera

Firmware on the cameras

Exact description of the cards

Capacity of the cards

Approximate purchase date

Exact description of the SSD drive(s)

Capacity of the drives

Approximate purchase date

Thanks…

The card maybe bad. The SSDs might not be fast enough.

What are your record settings?

That's the "stopped recording because of dropped frames" warning.

You need better media.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hello,

on the AngelBird CFCard there is a known issue. So BM has removed it from Support Matrix

The Issue with SSD i had on the Mini-Recorder and if i connect the SSD direct over U.2 Adapter to URSA, the SSD works

Thanks for the responses. The cameras are the Ursa Mini Pro 4.6k G2, and the cards are the AngelBird Ursa Mini 256 GB Match Packs of which we bought 3 of 2 years ago. The issue also came with newer 512GB cards that we got from AngelBird just a couple months ago (which I know relates to that sticky thread which I did see before this). The SSD are 1TB Samsung EVO which we have also had for about 2 years. This media was the same media being used in these cameras all week, meaning the last time we successfully used them was the previous day.

The cards are always ejected after offloading footage through ShotPut, and only ever formatted in camera before using them.

I know it's easy to point to the media here, but we have 2 other cameras (exact same model bought at the same time) all running the most current firmware that the media works just fine in, even immediately after giving an error in the 1 problematic camera

Thanks for the response. Very frustrating. Hope you can find a combination that works. Sometimes solving these issues requires having the actual gear in hand. Sometimes things fail but the next time you try something it works.

Okay, what i found, the issue is the Recorder Mini from BM.

Now i connect the U.2 drive direct with an U.2 --> USB Adapter and connect to SSD/USB Port on URSA.
That works fine, if i connect the Adapter to 12V Power.
