HDMI and BMPC on Electronic Design News

PostWed Jan 31, 2024 6:21 pm

In my other area of readings (electronics design), I found this curious article published earlier today with thoughts about the danger of HDMI in professional cameras, and a teardown of an old BMPC:

Really two interesting articles for the price of one. Except the two don’t tie together to really make a point about the dangers of HDMI connectivity. Like listening to a podcast where the conversation goes off the rails and then the speakers are out of time (and listener patience).

Our general recommendation is to…

Power down all the devices used if they have internal or built-in batteries
Connect the external power sources to all devices
Connect the HDMI/SDI cable between the devices
Power on the devices

FYI, this is backwards. The devices should be powered first then signal cable is connected. Worthless ad crap.

That's how they end up blowing the HDMI port.
