APRIL FOOLS: Inside Blackmagic's April Camera Release

PostMon Apr 01, 2024 5:33 am

I've just gotten the key information. It's HUGE!

Blackmagic is releasing a Medium Format Cinema Camera!!! That's right. It's a 32K IMAX size camera. And, what's amazing is they developed their own media for the camera that allows recording up to 120 FPS Open Gate.

There's more. They have developed new Blackmagic Cinema Lenses for the this camera. Amazing glass too. Optically incredible.

Here's the thing, they took it all further. This camera will work seamlessly with Virtual Production by utilizing the Blackmagic Virtual Production box they have developed that connects the camera to the computer running Unreal Engine. This box helps translate all the gyro data and lens data in real time so that the virtual environment to be displayed correctly.

And, it all has Blackmagic Cloud! No need for a connecting your phone. Blackmagic has a WiFi Box for onset Cloud Connection. This will send a WiFi signal to the camera which is on the same WiFi Network. The WiFi Box connects to either on set internet or a Cellular LTE service of your choosing.

And, word is that Blackmagic has struck a deal with Sir Christopher Nolan to use this revolutionary camera system on his next project. Nolan said "This is the first digital camera to truly surpass film. I'm flabbergasted, and will be shooting the entirety of my next film on it."

All of this is big! So big that it can only be an April Miracle... or April Fools!

However it still doesn't have the EL Zone system in it. And no ProRes Raw. So it's a fail.

Do you want to leave this service Arri and Red Only?

I think I might hold out for the large format version that has anti-cloud technology.

Not everything I use is water-resistant so I'd just as soon not having the clouds hanging around all the time while I am using my cameras, particularly indoors.
