Ursa Cine / Launched at NAB 2024

PostFri Apr 12, 2024 10:59 am

That was a wild one...

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/pro ... icursacine

Sensor 35.64mm x 23.32mm
Interchangeable PL mount with control (inc locking EF)
16 Stops DR

Resolutions including:
12,288 x 8040 (12K 3:2 open gate)
9648 x 8040 (12K 6:5)
9408 x 6264 (9K 3:2)
7680 x 6408 (9K 6:5)
8192 x 5360 (8K 3:2 open gate)
6432 x 5360 (8K 6:5)
4096 x 2680 (4K 3:2 open gate)
3216 x 2680 (4K 6:5)

Frame rates dependant on resolution but up to 224 in some configs (wonder if they'll hit Raptor VV crop rates with a firmware update?)

Built in ND, clear, 2, 4 and 6 stop IR

2 x Monitoring Screens on op and assist side.
1 x Camera Status Screen
Assist screen has various focus features as well as acting as a slate for metadata and shooting notes.

2 x 12g output
2 x XLR input w. phantom power

New usb-c viewfinder with locking pin. Power data and video all over single cable (hope they're sturdy but the pin will help)

1 x 7-pin Lemo for power out, serial and run/stop
1 x 3-pin Fischer for power out and run/stop

2 x USB Type-C side expansion ports for camera accessories (curious to see what's the play here - maybe compatibility with third party hardware like DJI lidar/focus pro?)

1 x 10Gb rj45 for streaming/remote control / cloud uploads

Wonderful looking new media options - pull out cartridges with m2 nvmes in either 8TB or 16TB flavours can be connected into a new 3 cartridge dock (not sure if these can be daisy chained or how they fit into post suites yet)

B mount 12/24v power.

What else...

in the UK it's priced at £12,035 + VAT

And some breathtaking first footage from John Brawley, just unbelievable colour and rendition from something in that price range.

ORGINAL POST:

I mean... 2 poster photos now, feel it's prob worth setting up a more searchable thread for the future than the 'NAB predictions' thread.

Will update this post with detailed specs/links for easy search after the Grant Show (which I've cleared my calendar for).

But so far it looks like power and lens control on the front, locking mount with lens data, antenna, top handle doesn't look the same as the traditional ursa with the weird gull wing thing to mount the EVF which matches the viewfinder thing I think people on FB/reddit were confusing for usb-c (to me it looks like the proprietary (bleugh) EVF mount from the 6K Pro with a locking pin. Would also presume user replacement mounts/OLPF given the screw around the PL which aren't on any of the previous Ursa range.

Looks like a 3 pin R/S port there on the bottom, hard to tell what the other one is from this photo, looks more like a Weipu and less like a Hirose.

Good Luck

Yes, I think so Adam.

Also something I noticed: above the USB-C I think you can kind of make out the word 'Viewfinder'.

I mentioned in first post, I don't think that's USB-C at all but the same viewfinder connection on the 6KPro

https://proav.co.uk/accessories/tilta-e ... k-pro-30cm

Would potentially free up the forward SDI of the pre-2024 ursas to send that feed out to the wireless antenna? Prepared to eat my words though and we'll find out in about 3 hours, depending on how much of a Columbo-style 'one more thing' Grant pulls on us.

I hope it's a different EVF unit though. I tried out the small 6K one and it's not a patch on my beloved but awkward-as-hell ursa oled vf.

HA! I've been wondering 'what's around the corner of the building', great scoop Robert/slashcam.de

EDIT: love the exterior fold-out display. Very pleased to see a rail based EVF mount. It also looks long. Usual ursa length rather than C300ish some have spoken of elsewhere.

I get it, but also it's very functional for what it is. I still use my 4.6K pro. It's not quite an amira in terms of 'on the shoulder readiness' but needs very little doing to it and has great balance, everything is ergonomic and just 'there'. But this looks to improve on that in a few ways. I'm keen to hear what it's got under the hood.

m2 storage for example sounds interesting... but perhaps pertains to high resolutions I probably don't need in my life considering how low I am on backup storage atm.

I know we're like 2 hours away from finding out, but they are two different pics, it looks like.
the left half shows an LPL mount, but the right half shows a lens on what looks like a PL mount???

If they are taking a swing at 'the big boys' this IS NOT going to be a cheap camera. I assume north of $10k.
There's a LOT of stuff on that camera.
A vast majority of Pocket owners may just finally take the leap into some other camera ecosystem.

Definitely looks different; the front face and whole surround are markedly different from the current Ursa. The data panel on the monitor door now appears to be colour too; although they seem to have retained similar buttons and dials; it would suggest too a new VF of a more cinelike form factor. There is also a M2, I think, type logo near the media slots; I have no idea what that might be.

Internal nvme using m.2 cards. Could POTENTIALLY be cache for high speed. Could be user replaceable as a cost effective alternative to CFExpress. Could be entirely modular and users choose what media they want to work with.

Looks as long and big as old Ursa's. We'll soon see but if it is, my personal interest level just sank to zero.
Hope there's a smaller camera coming too.

It looks like the height is less compared to the older body - maybe like 2 cm less.

reusing components like the lens mount system and the button layout makes sense. Perhaps it IS a smaller form factor?

I'm going to add Grant trolling and calling it a 'box camera' to my Blackmagic Bingo Card.

I'd be reasonably happy even if it's the same dimensions as the current lineup. But I can already see a big improvement in the form of the viewfinder solution which was my biggest gripe when rigging it for anything other than shoulder mount, so I'm a happy camper.

Looking forward to the full specs and some sample footage, but not at all what I expected. I thought BM would be bringing something that slots between the BMCC6K and the Ursa Mini 12K, not something that leapfrogs both entirely.

Looks VERY well thought out.

Love the Cine EVF
Quiet buttons.
5 inch LCD which flips all the way around/folds back in on operator side.
nvme module is amazing with 16x lanes for putting data straight into workstations.
rear USB-c for recording
2 X 12g SDI
timecode bnc
10g ethernet
Lemo
3 pin RS w 24 volt start/stop
15/19mm plate options
12/24v power options
SRT live streaming (!!!)
Dumb side with assist station (pop-out sunshield is nice!)
New focus page looks good..
2 x USB ports on top for third party expansion (DJI Lidar link?)

12k 80fps open gate
8k 140fps open gate
9k in 6:5 sounds verrry nice

Records HD proxies in h264, uploaded to blackmagic cloud.

Accessory options include:
Top handle
Shoulder mount
Handles

- costs approx 15k or 16-17k with viewfinder
-

Gorgeous footage in the demo. JB? Outstanding colour. Would like a copy not live streamed for a closer look. Absolutely stunning footage.

12k 80fps means at least 12.5ms rolling shutter (or better)

which for 12k is solid

16TB also available soon

17k sensor on the way towards the end of 2024. Basically 70mm film...
