URSA Cine & Dumb PL Lenses

PostSun Apr 14, 2024 6:53 pm

Dumb PL lenses are older lenses that don't have lens data contacts and don't transmit metadata to a camera. This isn't only older lenses but some newer lenses as well. So even classic Cooke S4 lenses for example are like this.

So the question is whether the URSA Cine will be able to Lens Map these dumb lenses with the lens motor system to get the Iris, Focus Distance, and (for Zooms) Focal Length information? Since some lens motor systems like Teradek or Arri allow for lens mapping of dumb lenses I'm curious if that information can be transmitted via the lens motor cable to the camera?

Probably best for someone from Blackmagic to answer this as it is more specifically a technical question of what is possible with the camera, and they would know best.
