I've noticed the sensor pattern creeping up over and over again on the BMPCC. Yesterday's shoot provided a very clear example (download as it doesn't show much reduced).


I love to shoot back-lit scenes with open shadow detail. I want to understand if this is going to be a similar problem in all types of camera's or is the BMPCC a particularly poor performer in this regard. The camera certainly does a remarkable job in most other situations.

All thoughts and answers appreciated.

I shoot very similar to that and have both the BMCC EF and BMPCC. Only have seen it on the BMPCC.

The BMPCC does show a grid pattern when there is lens flare (as in your sample).

BM are aware of the issue. They've said they are looking into it.

In the meantime you can "fix" the grid pattern in post by shifting your image 0.5px horizontally and vertically. Grid will disappear.

Looks like the known "grid pattern" of BMPCC. There's a post workaround for that by shifting the image both vertically and horizontally by 0.5 pixels into either direction.

Thanks Dustin, I'm in the same boat. I am finding I like shooting with the pocket as it's so small. Guess I'm getting lazy....

Curious what software are you using to do this. AE, PS. Don't think I can make this small a move in Resolve.

Ditto response to Adam. Appreciate it.

In Resolve, you can do it under Input Sizing on the Color tab. Just enter the Pan and Tilt values.

As Rauno said, do it in the Sizing panel in Resolve. A simple pan and tilt of 0.5 will "fix" the issue.

Thanks you guys. That was easy. I don't know why buy I'd made very little use of the sizing panel always heading to Premiere or AE. Much easier.
