Opinion please 3 cam interview white balance

PostWed Jun 05, 2024 12:57 pm

Next week I’m doing a series of interviews inside and out. I’ll be using a 6k pro, a UMB G2, and an Ursa mini pro 4.6. Should I set all three cameras to same white balance via Kelvin or do an auto white balance on all three cameras?

Shoot in Braw and add a test clip with a color chart in each camera/light setup... then balance in post with color management.
My opinion... and practice.

I would encourage you to pick up Cine Meter II ... use it to dial in an approximate K value for the three cameras and then as Jeffrey suggests capture a color checker in either a separate clip or at the beginning of the interview and after correcting the color edit it out of the final.

As you are doing both indoor and outdoor shots ... the K will be quite divergent in the two settings ... the closer you start the less weird color rotation and shifts will occur.

Yet the most accurate WB may be not the most pleasing ... skin tones must appear natural ... so even when you use the WB eye dropper on the color chart ... you may need to shift a bit ... usually warmer to find
a pleasing balance.

And remember that the color temp for daylight is shifting a lot over the hours.

I would get an Calibrite Color Checker Video and shoot all three cameras with the color chart.
